Our students should be at the center of every decision made by the school board." |
About AngieBorn and raised in Tennessee, Angie made her way to The University of Tennessee in 1985 and never left Knoxville. It has been a joy for Angie and her husband John to raise their two kids, Cooper and Cristina, here in East Tennessee.
Angie believes when it comes to the education of their children parents know what’s best for their child. After starting in private school, Angie and John moved Cooper and Cristina to Knox County Schools, and they both graduated from Hardin Valley Academy. Her son enjoyed the Career and Tech Education (CTE) opportunities at Byington-Solway. Her daughter found a place in the music programs at Hardin Valley Academy as a member of The Spirit of the Valley Marching Band, Indoor Percussion Ensemble and Orchestra. Her son attended TCAT and now works as a diesel mechanic, and her daughter is studying music at Tennessee Tech University. Angie has been deeply involved in Knox County Schools for the past 8 years. She started volunteering in her children’s classrooms. Then she served as PTA President and helped coordinate music program activities. Recently, she served on the superintendent’s transition team. Angie’s experience has prepared her to seek what is best for all of our children in Knox County and to help Knox County Schools be the very best. |
Angie's Priorities
LiteracyReading and writing are part of the basics of education. However, nearly 60% of Knox County students are below proficiency in English Language Arts. This is simply unacceptable. As your board representative, Angie will work with the superintendent to ensure our teachers and students are equipped with the best curriculum, instructional tools, and support system to help every student excel in reading and writing.
Career and Technical EducationAngie will be an advocate for expanded career and technical education opportunities. Her son is one of thousands of students in Knox County who benefited from CTE programs in high school and as a post-secondary student at Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT). He is now enjoying a career as a diesel mechanic. Knox County Schools should prepare students for life after high school, whether university studies, technical school, or military service.

The ArtsAngie will be a passionate voice for the arts. As a "band mom" for 7 years, Angie saw firsthand how the music programs inspired her daughter and helped her blossom. Studies suggest that students who participated in an arts education had fewer disciplinary issues, higher writing achievement scores, and higher college aspirations to name a few. To expand our children’s horizons, a well-rounded education should include band, orchestra, art, theater, dance, and chorus. We must ensure every student has access to these programs led by high quality, fully equipped educators.
Teacher PayAngie will fight for competitive salaries for our teachers and ensure they have the proper supports to educate our students. When businesses want to recruit the best and brightest, their salaries reflect it. Knox County Schools must be competitive with our neighboring counties.
